Miriam Camerini (ISL/IT; rabbinical student, theater director, performer)

Miriam Camerini was born in Jerusalem and grew up in Milan. Theatre director, singer, writer and Jewish scholar, Miriam believes "interpretation" is a key word to describe her work with theatre, music, and Jewish texts. She studied Theatre at the University of Milan and Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where she also learned Bible and Talmud at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies; she’s now a rabbinical student at Beit Midrash Har'El, one of the first orthodox schools to ordain women rabbis. Miriam published a book about food and religions, Ricette e Precetti (in German with the title Rezepte und Gebote). Her most recent theatre work includes a play on German Jewish poet Else Lasker-Schüler, a musical project on Jewish Diasporas called Caffe Odessa; Messiah and Revolution: a concert/show on the Bund and her new show on An-sky's ethnographic expedition in the Pale of Settlement (1912-1914). At Yiddish Summer Weimar she has performed in the Bobe Mayses project in 2016 and directed Di Megile fun Vaymar in 2019.
