The beautiful melodies chosen for this program come from an archive of newly discovered klezmer tunes collected during ethnographic field research trips to Jewish villages in the Ukrainian countryside between 1912-1914. This remarkable treasure trove of almost 1400 handwritten melodies, long-preserved in the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, were thought to be lost, and the tunes have not been heard or played for over 100 years - until today!

Susi Evans is “one of the best klezmer clarinettists of our day"
(Songlines Magazine) and Szilvia Csaranko is one of only a handful of accordionists worldwide specialising in traditional Yiddish music. Their new double-album ‘Fun an Altn Klezmer Heft: Beautiful Music from Old Manuscripts’ received a 4 star review in Songlines Magazine and was described as “A rare treat.. idiomatically played by brilliant musicians who really know their stuff”.
