Summer Evening of Jewish Music
With simkhat hanefesh, Dr. Diana Matut and Dobranotch
June 15 Sat 04:00 PM - 10:00 PM @ Klosterruine Stadtroda, Klosterstraße 51-53, 07646 Stadtroda
Free admission. Donations are welcome.
Instead of Jewish “culture,” as the Judaist Dr. Diana Matut says, we should actually speak of Jewish “cultures.” Experience for yourself how true this is on July 15 in Stadtroda in a double concert of two very different international ensembles and a lecture. The ensemble simkhat hanefesh (Joy of the Soul) performs Jewish music as it sounded in Europe during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The ensemble brings its very latest program to Stadtroda this evening: “A Journey through Ashkenaz. The Journeys of Abraham Levie 1719 – 1723.” For more information about the ensemble and its program, see www.simkhat-hanefesh.com
Following the concert, Dr. Diana Matut will explain in detail the origin and meaning of many Hebrew and Yiddish words that are found in German in her lecture ""More than Mischpoke and Schlamassel ... on Hebrew and Yiddish Words in German.” Her lecture is also a short stroll through the history of Jewish life in Germany.
The third part of the program features a performance by the renowned international klezmer band, Dobranotch. The band’s six musicians come from from all over Europe and they’ve been on the road for over 20 years performing dance-like, groovy, exciting klezmer music fused with other kinds of Eastern European folk music. Dobranotch has inspired galvanized audiences all over the world, and their apperance in Stadtroda is a very special event.
